Today was a long day of walking the halls of the Orange County Convention Center, but a very productive day of browsing the latest from golf companies around the world. Too many new and exciting products to list all at once, but there are a few notable products that we’ll discuss.
First, a few nice upgrades and features from SkyGolf on their SkyCaddie SG5. Everyone has asked for more from their SG5 with color display. Customers have said, why the color screen, but no hole layout image? Well, wait just another few weeks, and all will change. SkyGolf will launch this feature in March, an image of the hole will now be displayed so that you can see the exact layout of the hole. You’ll see the dog-leg and hazards out of view. Also, a feature that SkyGolf claims you’ll never see from any other golf GPS system, contours on the green, specifically the tiers of the green. This feature will also be available starting in March. SkyGolf has some really exciting technology and products in the pipeline, more on that another time.
There was a lot of talk last year when Vijay was seen using a golf training aid to work on his tempo. We heard various rumors about which tempo training it was, but now the truth is out. Vijay was using the Sonic Golf training aid. This innovative training aid fits inisde the shaft of the club under the grip. Along with a headset, and a sensor in the club, you immerse yourself in the tempo and feedback of your swing. This is a truely new and innovative training aid. We’ll have more to report on Sonic Golf in the near future.
With the popularity of golf gps systems we were expecting to see new technology and innovative designs to hit the market. The new OnPar golf gps offers intuitive technology in a user friendly device. With a touch screen and a form factor similar to an iPhone, the OnPar Golf GPS is sure to be a hit. I was impressed by the large and bright color screen. The shot tracking, scoring statistics, and club averages along with the club suggestions will add a new dimensions to the functionality of golf gps devices. The OnPar golf gps is expected to be available in late March.
