bioATP Mechanics of Action
The primary objective of bioATP is to maintain the maximum biochemical capacity of generating ATP (adenosine triphosphate). Mechanics of Action
Niacin (vitamin B3) begins the process by generating the hydrogen carrier NAD+, which is the coenzyme involved in several oxidatitive/reduction reactions. NAD+ is then reduced to form NADH, which is then oxidized by the respiratory chain event to produce molecules of ATP. Niacin increases blood flow to peripheral tissues which prevents muscle cramps, and promotes energy metabolism.
Riboflavin (vitamin B2) liberates the hydrogen carrier FAD (flavin adenine dinucleotide). FAD is then reduced to FADH2, and ATP molecules are formed when FADH2 is oxidized. In the end product of glycolysis, two molecules of pyruvate are fed into the Krebs Cycle where they are oxidized to form CO2. In this process, NAD+ and FAD become reduced to NADH and FADH2, thus carrying hydrogen into the respiratory chain. In this event, energy is conserved in ATP and the hydrogen is used to reduce oxygen into water.
The pyruvate dehydrogenase (PD) reaction requires the cofactors derived from niacin, thiamine, riboflavin and lipoic acid. An inadequate supply, either thru inborn errors or insufficient utilization can cause a malfunctioning of the metabolic pathway at any number of the particular enzymatic reaction sites where the cofactor is involved.
